Understanding Sexual Harassment for Supervisors - CA

California law forbids harassment based on protected categories. Included in this is the prohibition of sexual harassment. Although it may sound like a simple concept, harassment can be difficult for individuals to comprehend, including what is considered harassment and what they should do about it. California law sets out specific requirements that an employee will need to provide in order to prove they have been subjected to harassment under the law. Understanding those requirements can help companies and individuals avoid the behavior that might constitute harassment. This course will identify those requirements. Understanding the behavior that might constitute harassment is not enough though. As a supervisor, you also need to know what actions you must take with the information. Court decisions continue to hold supervisors to a high standard, not only in terms of their own behavior, but also in terms of how to respond to harassment by employees, customers, or vendors. California law requires most supervisors to take harassment training. But this training is more than that. Being a supervisor comes with special responsibilities under the law. If you act as a supervisor without understanding your responsibilities, you are putting your employer, and potentially yourself, at risk. Understanding the law on harassment, including sexual harassment, will help you eradicate it in the workplace, as well as protect yourself and your employer. This course will not only teach you the basics of harassment law but, through case scenarios and exercises, it will also give you a clear understanding of how to effectively respond to harassment as a supervisor and as an individual.
